Kumiko is a delicate Japanese technique of assembling wooden pieces without the use of nails. Thinly slit wooden pieces are grooved, punched and mortised, and then fitted individually using a plane, saw, chisel and other tools to make fine adjustments.

In this workshop, students will learn to safely and effectively use a Whittling Knife to shape and carve wood. Each participant will start carving a whittling stick while learning the knife skills, then apply these skills while whittling a Scandinavian Style Butter Knife.
The Comfort Bird is a beautiful smooth bird-shaped piece of polished wood which feels delicious in the hand. Great to hold when you feel anxious. In this workshop children will learn some knife skills as you start with a blank and be guided through the process of whittling your beautiful Comfort Bird.

A Kuksa is a traditional, hand-carved wooden cup originating from the indigenous Sámi people of Lapland. Some carving experience is needed to attend this workshop where you will learn to use an adze, axe, gouges & knives to create your Kuksa cup.
